Glissando – World Premiere
On 23rd October 2022, a fabulous concert from the four-harp ensemble, ‘Glissando’, played to a 100-strong audience in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the carved Tudor oak screen which can be seen in the church. The programme included the premiere of ‘Catalina Suite’, composed by Sussex-based Alex Rider who was inspired to write the piece by the beauty of the Tudor screen. It is understood that the screen was made to mark the marriage of Catherine of Aragon (the ‘Catalina’ in the title) to King Henry VIII. Music was interspersed with readings by John Tolputt, Wendy Francis, Jeremy Tomlinson and others evoking the 16th century and explaining the screen’s tumultuous history.
