8 – The Church Chest

If you can afford it please put a donation in it to help us to maintain this magnificent Church, it costs a lot of money! The Friends of the Church raise money to improve it and make it more useful and enjoyable to the community at large – we have already contributed to the new lighting and sound systems and much more is planned. You can either put money in the chest or use the card reader on the stand on the right.
The Friends of Steyning Parish Church have provided this guide and our other publications. Please join the Friends – it doesn’t cost anything! You will find an application form nearby. Alternatively simply send an email to the Friends friends@friendsofspc.org Members will receive invitations to events, updates on progress – and sometimes requests for help! See this page for more information. Members of the Friends do not have to be members of the Church nor do Friends need to have a religion. The Friends are a purely secular organisation.
If you have any questions they will be answered by the illustrated guidebook which is on display; we almost give it away for £4.
You may find information in the Guidebook (published in 2017) which conflicts with the contents of this tour – we continue to research this Church but its history is so rich and complex that we constantly find fresh information. For example, we used to think that the existing tower was built in around 1605, but we now think that it probably took some years longer to collect enough money.

Time to go! Please move up the steps and back into the porch (see 9 on plan) and then press Next.
