Half Term Fun Day at Steyning Parish Church
Bringing History Alive in a Day of Discovery and Creativity
A fun day full of craftwork, dancing, storytelling and Norman arch-building filled the church on Monday 28th October as part of the Autumn half-term.
Despite the drizzly weather outside, 22 children and a fantastic team of helpers came together for a history themed day of creativity and discovery.
Highlights of the day
“Dancing Through the Centuries” brought many happy smiles, with dances ranging from Tudor steps to the Charleston.
Gary’s scavenger history quiz had children exploring the church’s hidden corners, searching out clues scattered throughout to uncover secrets of the church’s history,
Our craft tables were also a hit, with children creating models of the Norman arches and using their sewing skills to create hand puppets.
Games and free-play for the younger ones in the Cuthman chapel kept them happily entertained, including an impromptu “den” in the clergy stall.
A fantastic community spirit permeated the whole day with festive balloons decorating the church doorway which attracted passers-by and we invited our local Community Wardens to come and join the fun.
Families brought along an indoor picnic and our invaluable helpers did a wonderful job providing hot and cold drinks and some light snacks.
It was a day filled with warmth, happy smiles, creativity and community spirit—a true celebration of our church’s unique history. Thank you to all who joined to make this such a special day and helped to bring Steyning Parish Church’s history to life. Particular thanks go to all our friends who helped us with setting up and running this event. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next gathering!
